May 15, 2007: Before leaving for Cannes, Academy Award-winning director, Martin Scorsese was jointly honored with Debra and Leon Black by the Museum of Modern Art at the 39th Annual Party in the Garden. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Richard Parsons, Barry Diller, Bruce Wasserstein, Stephen Schwarzman, Edgar Bronfman, Michael Ovitz, painter Chuck Close, sculptor Richard Serra and hip-hop artist Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter were among some 900 guests who joined MOMA chairman Jerry Speyer, president Marie-Josée Kravis, director Glenn Lowry, event co-chair Jo Carole Lauder, and other trustees for cocktails in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden followed by dinner and dancing until midnight. The post-supper entertainment featured a live set by R&B singer, Chrisette Michele Payne introduced by Jay-Z. At evening's end, the tally of funds raised by the museum stood at $3.8 million.
